DIY Kitty Furniture

Does your cat have some kitty furniture of her own to play on? If so, that’s great! Cats really benefit from having some things they don’t have to share with their human pals. Fortunately, you don’t have to break your budget getting Fluffy’s things. There are lots of great options for things you can make yourself! Read on as a Rochester, NY vet lists some great DIY kitty furniture.

Cat Tower

Cat towers are great for Fluffy! They offer your cute pet a scratching post, so she can do her nails without ruining your furniture. They will also give your furball yet another napping spot, and keep her active by tempting her to climb and jump. To turn an old stepladder into a cat tower, just add planks to the steps to widen them out into kitty lounging spots. Then, cover the whole thing in carpet or sisal rope.

You can make Fluffy a cute little kitty hammock in just a few minutes. All you need is a coffee or end table with four legs, and a piece of fabric. Cut the material so that it’s just a bit smaller than the table top, then attach the corners to the legs. Voila! Instant happy cat.

As far as Fluffy is concerned, there’s no such thing as too many beds. You can turn a wicker basket, wooden storage crate, hard-shell suitcase, or hatbox into a comfy kitty napping spot just by adding soft blankets and pillows. There are also some great ways to turn an old end table into a cat bed. If you want to make Fluffy’s furniture look nicer, dress it up with paint, varnish, or stencils.

Box Castle

As you may have noticed, kitties are very fond of boxes. Why not make Fluffy her own little box castle? You can make a simple one by just attaching a few boxes together. Or, go all out and make Her Furry Highness a palace that includes towers, balconies, and turrets.

Pet Tent

All you need to make Fluffy a cute little pet tent is an old tee shirt and a wire hangar. This is a great option for scaredy-cats and kitties that like small spaces. Look online for step-by-step instructions.
