Fluffy’s Year In Review

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that we’re already leaving 2019 behind, and moving on to 2020. This has certainly been an interesting year for Fluffy! Read on as a Rochester, NY vet lists some kitty news highlights of the past year.

Study Finds That Cats Actually Do Love Us

Fluffy has tried very hard to build a reputation as a cool, aloof predator. But is she really that cold? A 2019 study shed some light on the matter. Results showed that kitties do form very strong bonds with their owners, just like dogs do. This backs up a 2017 study, which revealed that cats actually prefer being petted over eating or playing with toys. As it turns out, cats actually adjust their behavior depending on how much love and attention they are—or aren’t—getting. (We suspect this isn’t really news to some of you. Many of our feline patients are complete lovebugs!)

We Finally Learned How To Pet Fluffy

Researchers also discovered that there’s a wrong and right way to pet cats. Apparently, Fluffy really enjoys being petted around her face and head. That furry belly, however, is probably off-limits. Suffice it to say, we’re not exactly shocked by these findings.

Goodbye, Grumpy Cat

On May 19th, the internet went into collective mourning at the news of the passing of Tardar Sauce, more commonly known as Grumpy Cat. Grumpy Cat was an adorable furball whose underbite made her look permanently angry. This unusual look launched hundreds of hilarious memes. RIP.

The Mystery Of The Butt-Wiggle Cracked. Or Not.

Does your pet do that adorable butt-wiggle before she pounces? What is this kitty twerking all about? Well, we may have to wait a bit longer for an official explanation, but one scientist does have a philosophy. In a nutshell, this may be a kitty spring-load technique. Who knew?

AI Catastrophe

There certainly are some interesting experiments going on with artificial intelligence these days. Although AI bots did very well at coming up with cute names for Guinea pigs (Popchop and Fuzzberry are our favorites), they completely tanked when it came to recreating cute cat photos. We’ll just stick to real kitty pics.

All of us at All Cats want to wish you a Happy New Year. And to our feline patients, Happy Mew Year! (That’s tomorrow.) Contact us, your Rochester, NY animal clinic, anytime!
