One of the best things you can do for your beloved cat is make sure that she is getting proper veterinary care. Of course, most of our feline patients would much rather take a nap than come visit us. We understand this, and do everything we can to make appointments quick and easy. However, there are also some ways for you to make doctors’ visits a little easier on Fluffy. A local Rochester, NY vet lists some of them below.
See if you can combine multiple procedures into one appointment. For example, it’s quite common to have kitties microchipped when they get spayed or neutered. Ask your vet for advice.
Make The Carrier Comfy
If Fluffy only sees her carrier when she’s about to go to the vet, she may very well ‘hightail’ it to her favorite hiding place as soon as she spots it. Keep the carrier out between appointments, and put toys and comfy bedding inside. This will make the carrier more inviting for your furry pal.
Kitty Calming Tactics
Keep some kitty-calming products on hand. You can find many different ones in pet stores, including treats, sprays, and diffusers. These help soothe nervous pets, and can really be quite helpful in keeping your cat calm. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.
On The Trip
Most of our feline pals aren’t particularly fond of car rides. Your furball may voice her opinion by meowing all the way to the animal hospital. Kitties often shed when they are nervous, so she may also lose some hair. To make the ride easy on Fluffy, play some soothing music on the radio. You may also want to crack a window, to ensure that there is always fresh air flowing to her. (This can really help with carsickness.) Finally, try to avoid sharp turns, bumpy roads, and sudden stops and starts.
When you get home again, placate your kitty by giving her a special treat or perhaps a new toy. Some quality cuddle time and a fun play session will also help. At the end of the day, even if Fluffy isn’t exactly thrilled about visiting us, she’ll be much healthier—and therefore happier—with proper veterinary care.
