Fluffy’s First Christmas

Has a new kitten recently joined your household? If so, you may be in for the most adorable holiday season ever. While little Fluffy will never stop being cute, she will be at her most charming when she’s little. Baby cats are very frisky and playful, and they definitely have a knack for mischief. Read on as a local Webster, NY vet offers some advice on keeping your little furball happy, healthy, and purring.

Our feline pals often see decorations as either toys or prey, or both. Never underestimate a kitten’s ability to get into trouble! You may very well decorate everything to minimize the hazards to Fluffy, only to turn around and find her trying to eat a plastic wrapper. Keep this in mind when getting your place ready for the holidays. Anything small or sharp, like ornament hooks or small bells, is a hazard, as is anything with ropes or cords. Plants are also dangerous. Poinsettia, holly, ivy, mistletoe, and many other seasonal favorites are toxic to cats.

There are few things cuter than kittens looking adorably innocent against holiday backdrops. Snap some cute pictures of your furry friend. Little Fluffy’s super cute toddler phase will go by much too quickly!

Pick up a few things for your tiny pal. Toys are great gifts for kittens. Little Fluffy may also appreciate things like soft beds, cat tunnels, and scratching posts. While it may be tempting to get kitten-sized things, it’s best to choose things that your feline pal will still be able to use when she’s all grown up. Otherwise, you’ll end up replacing them within a few months.

Little Fluffy may not be able to resist attacking that pretty tree. Only hang a few things on the bottom branches. These should be dull ornaments that won’t break if they fall. Keep most of the tinsel, lights, and ribbons on the top part of the tree.

This is a very important time in your pet’s life. Kittens often see their humans as parents, so it’s important to bond with your tiny ball of fur. Pay little Fluffy lots of attention, and make sure she feels loved and safe. Happy kittens are a purrfect touch to a holiday scene!
